KNA
Nurses are on strike in Eastern Kentucky (and West Virginia)
at Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) facilities throughout
the region.
The
Issues: This
strike is not about money.
The nurses are standing up for patient safety against
poor staffing and mandatory overtime, and for nurses’
seniority rights.
The
Problem:
ARH
refuses to return to the bargaining table to try to reach
compromise on the issues.
Instead, ARH is investing in excess of a million
dollars to hire strike-breaking replacement workers and
“consultants”.
What
You Can Do: Contact members of the ARH Board of Trustees to express your
concern over the treatment of RNs and the lack of concern over
the safety of patients. You
can go to www.arh.org
and type in “trustees” in the search block to find the
names of those Board members.
Also,
you can contact one of the Trustees, Representative Leslie
Combs, at her legislative office to express your opinion.
