- Maintaining
a strong voice for Nursing:
NUMBERS MATTER. The
KNA and the ANA have been recognized (by resolution) as the voices
of nursing in Frankfort and in Washington, DC, respectively.
This is a dramatic time for health policy on the state and
national level. In
order for KNA/ANA to continue to have an impact on legislation,
policy-making, workplace issues, etc, it is imperative that the
association(s) can point to large membership numbers and be able
to mobilize that membership when needed.
- Making
a contribution to affect the issues that face nursing
Whether
your contribution is simply the dues you pay to KNA, or you choose
to become an active member and leader in the association,
membership in KNA gives RNs the avenue to make a difference
for nursing and for patients.
KNA provides access to areas of law-making, policy
development, regulatory bodies, Governor’s boards, and
grassroots lobbying efforts that impact healthcare policy on a
state level, while ANA offers the same on a national level.
SOME
OF THOSE ISSUES:
Improving
the mechanisms to protect Whistleblowers who report unsafe conditions
for patients, staff or visitors; making sure that honoring your RN
license does not mean threatening your job; developing limits on the
use of mandatory overtime for RNs;
addressing unacceptable staffing practices; becoming a leader
in healthcare reform and the exploration of a single–payer system;
prevent the assignment of nursing duties to unlicensed personnel and
the assignment of RN duties to
LPNs;
and so much more.
- Workplace
Assistance & Nursing Practice Issues:
KNA members enjoy free assistance from KNA staff and
leadership on strategies to address workplace concerns, job
hunting, and other professional workplace issues.
In addition, KNA provides resources, many through the ANA,
that address professional
standards issues for all areas of nursing.
The KNA also works as a resource for its
members to locate and connect to appropriate regulatory
bodies when needed to address workplace or practice issues.
And, KNA members receive a discount on all resources,
including the popular guide book, Nurse
to Nurse: Skills for Professional Success,
which is written an published by the KNA
