The KNA will launch a statewide call for RNs to provide their stories about workplaces that promote RN professional growth, development, mobility, and personal ownership of one’s practice. This call will go out to all RNs in all work environments from acute care to education; from long-term care to home health and from small rural facilities to large urban hospitals, etc

Stories will be selected and profiled in the KENTUCKY NURSE, on the KNA website, and any other mediums available to the KNA.  Profiles will be organized by criteria, possibly based on community size or region.  Categories are to be determined.

The KNA will develop and sponsor programs, such as panel discussions, poster presentations and networking opportunities that promote dialogue about experiences of RNs in all areas of practice that have produced positive outcomes for RN professional development, educational mobility and other areas of growth for RNs.

The KNA will develop a library of testimony, models, research and other resources that offer successful professional nursing experiences. This library of resources will include career ladders that outline possible courses to follow in order to achieve particular areas and levels of professional nursing – for example, a general ladder that outlines a path to pursue a career in one of the advanced practices, or a career in education, management, business ownership, etc.

The goal of the KNA Excellence Initiative is, first, to promote the endless list of positive workplace experiences that promote professional growth and achievement for RNs at all levels and in all areas of practice, in whatever course they choose to follow.

Secondly, the KNA Excellence Initiative is designed to create a conduit through which nurses can dialogue, share ideas, network, publish research, and promote professional and educational mobility in ways that clear paths to make professionalism and growth as accessible as possible.
